[It's after she's done speaking with Sol that she realizes, with all of her exploring the area... She's in dire need of something new to wear. These clothes were cleaned when she entered the hospital, of course, but that doesn't change the barely visible stains on the collar of her shirt, or the fraying at the hem of her shorts.
As she's looking around, though, she happens to notice someone else present. Casually:]
[What's Kaoru doing? He's seated on the floor of the boutique with a notepad in his lap, pencil sketching across the page and also with a few scraps of fabric next to his feet. He looks up upon hearing Emma, lifting an eyebrow before replying.]
I think you're desperately in need of a new outfit.
[He knows exactly what she's asking about, but this has officially distracted him. It's hard for him to focus if he's busy eyeballing the poor quality of her clothes. (They aren't that poor, Kaoru's just. Kaoru.)]
I was in the garden yesterday and someone was trying to figure out how to make a snack out of the flowers. I can't say what people will and won't do anymore.
[He looks back at his paper then.] Stick with black. It accentuates your eyes and your waistline. Light colors on top work best for your bone structure, too. A lavender might look nice.
[What a rude wake-up call. Kaoru wasn't entirely sure what to do next, but after the announcement, and after hearing what Sol and Lune had to say, he turned on his heel and wandered away.
It's still dark outside and the lights haven't returned yet, but he navigates his way to the shrine and through the gates. Whenever Emma arrives, or perhaps she's already there, she'll notice that there's a faint glow coming from the distances.
A small flame flickers but seems to go out immediately. Flickers. Goes out. Flickers. Goes out.
...he's working on it, okay?]
Stay on...[It's said to his hands, mostly, but here we are.]
[It's a while after the announcement that she comes to the flower garden. Even after a few weeks, it's not hard to regard this as a place of comfort; the plants and the scents remind her of the way her home was before things went into disarray.
All the same, those thoughts are put aside as she notices someone else inside... Someone who seems decidedly less well off. She approaches him, glancing up his way.]
[While death wasn't nice to anyone, at least last week wasn't entirely personal. It had been early and while he had spoken to both Tsurumaru and Mary he hadn't felt any sort of real attachment outside of a sense of the whole thing being a little sad.
This time, however, things were different. These were people he had memories of and experiences with, and this was a person he actually started growing fond of and letting her get close. Losing Nana had been, in a way, a very drastic wake-up call.
When Emma finds him he's staring at a patch of orange flowers, not quite seeing what's in front of him. He's visibly rattled and jumps lightly when she speaks, turning his head to glance at her.]
[She doesn't really frequent the fire area, but when she happens to be wandering through, the volcano is always interesting to watch. Today, though, when she enters, she sees a sight she wasn't quite expecting. As she tilts her head, looking at Kaoru preparing the rocket:]
[People who definitely ignore the advice of well-meaning adults: Kaoru Hitachiin. He's happily basking in the warmth of the fire region and definitely preparing a rocket when Emma appears.
There's a sliiiightly guilty grin, but mostly devious.]
This seemed like the best place to test these out.
It's not going into the side of a volcano. [He looks excited though, it's fine.] But I figure being in this area will enhance the explosion itself. It'll still go over the top of it.
[Part of him doesn't want to answer the door. The other logical part knows Lili and Emma were friends, so a short moment later the door opens.
For once he's dressed plainly in a t-shirt and loose pants. He had no plans to go anywhere. A notebook lays open on the table and he gives her a curious uncertain look. He also looks a little lost, but he grins a bit anyhow.]
[He's not exactly in the mood to see people, but he's in the garden gathering flowers when Emma finds him. He looks up, a faint smile as a greeting before he looks away.]
Hi, Emma. [A glance at the flowers.] I was just...trying to decide.
[This gateway isn't as fun as the last one, but it's fresh air and maybe Kaoru needs that instead of wallowing. Still, for once he's not actively seeking people out but rather he's keeping to himself. A short-sleeved hoodie's wrapped around his frame and he's in jeans, not entirely settled on something fashionable today and keeping the hood up to try and stop some of the windchill.
But it's not bad.
He's roaming around the village though, looking up at some of the pillars and houses when he notices he's not alone.]
This almost seems like a letdown after the last gateway, doesn't it?
The ninja-village right? Yeah, I'll pass. [Ugh.] This seems very...quaint, I think. But it's also larger than some of the others. Where do you think the people are?
week zero, sunday evening.
As she's looking around, though, she happens to notice someone else present. Casually:]
So, what do you think about it all so far?
