[What's Kaoru doing? He's seated on the floor of the boutique with a notepad in his lap, pencil sketching across the page and also with a few scraps of fabric next to his feet. He looks up upon hearing Emma, lifting an eyebrow before replying.]
I think you're desperately in need of a new outfit.
[He knows exactly what she's asking about, but this has officially distracted him. It's hard for him to focus if he's busy eyeballing the poor quality of her clothes. (They aren't that poor, Kaoru's just. Kaoru.)]

I was in the garden yesterday and someone was trying to figure out how to make a snack out of the flowers. I can't say what people will and won't do anymore.
[He looks back at his paper then.] Stick with black. It accentuates your eyes and your waistline. Light colors on top work best for your bone structure, too. A lavender might look nice.
[Is this how you make small talk? No.]

[There's a hint of a smile. At least her sense of humor seems to resonate with him.]
My mom's the CEO and chief designer of her own fashion company. [To explain.] I've learned a lot from her.
[A point of a pencil directed toward a light blue v-neck blouse.] That. You can keep the black shorts if you find a better pair. The cut on those is pretty bad.

That's because I'm still thinking about it. [There's honesty in that as he looks at his paper.] This whole thing sounds sort of crazy, doesn't it? "Cores of the universe" and "darkness" and stuff. That bird said it was maybe like an RPG but I didn't think he was serious.
I can think of a lot of reasons they'd lie to try and get us to cooperate, but this is almost impressive. The amount of detail for authenticity is hardly minor either.
[...] Plus the power thing is real. I haven't found a way to explain that as something normal yet.

Yes. [Just. Bluntly.] What other stuff are you thinking of?
Oh? What about it is alarming? [Just. Pleasantly. He's aware, thanks.]
No, but I was curious what you'd say about it. That's all.
It's a long, boring story. I wouldn't worry about it too much. [He's definitely calling her out here.]
[:)]
Maybe someday. [Doubtful!] You never really explained your thoughts on this situation. So?

[What a rude wake-up call. Kaoru wasn't entirely sure what to do next, but after the announcement, and after hearing what Sol and Lune had to say, he turned on his heel and wandered away.
It's still dark outside and the lights haven't returned yet, but he navigates his way to the shrine and through the gates. Whenever Emma arrives, or perhaps she's already there, she'll notice that there's a faint glow coming from the distances.
A small flame flickers but seems to go out immediately. Flickers. Goes out. Flickers. Goes out.
...he's working on it, okay?]
Stay on...[It's said to his hands, mostly, but here we are.]

No. It should stay, but I'm still having trouble getting it to stick. [But it's dark and he pauses to pinpoint who he's speaking to.] Emma?
That's sort of where I'm at as well. It's hard to know if we can trust them when they don't seem to know anything and we can't even read their expressions.
