...I guess you could say I’m discontent about the fact that my home was invaded by aliens who killed every last member of the human race. Go ahead and show me someone who’s going to grin and bear that.

...Yeah, I am. [She catches his meaning easily enough.] Gotta say, out of everything I imagined an afterlife might be like - this was not on the list.

The only thing she mentioned was that you had a horrible family situation, I think? Nothing specific.

...I didn't imagine it might be like this either, but then I may well still be alive. It was all a bit up in the air-- or underwater, as it were.

My family situation wasn't as terrible as she makes it sound, not when I was small. We were all close-- but twins were considered cursed.

One of us was meant to die at birth, but instead, our mother and father killed anyone who learned he existed.

I do have that. I don't have much reason to continue living, for the moment.

They saw it as removing a threat. It was common in my time-- and the previous Head had little against killing our own, anyway, even with the clan in decline. He wanted only the strongest left to serve him.

Was it only the alien trouble that affected you, or...? I imagine dying is the most impactful thing, but- still.

...I guess not, no. If we're talking about general discontentment, there's a few other things that come to mind, but you can't really beat watching the destruction of the entire human race. Everything is always going to kind of pale in comparison to that.

I'd say I can imagine, but-- I haven't seen destruction on quite that level before.

I was working at a coffee shop while I put myself through college. Not that interesting.
