week six, friday.

[It takes her a while to find him, but on Friday morning, when she comes across him in the armory... Her voice is soft, and there's a smile on her face despite everything, even if it's not reflected in her tone.]

...Do you have a second? Lune asked me to talk to you.

[ kara is going through basic drills when emma appears, and immediately he scowls. why should he waste time with her, after last week? he's already sheathing his sword and preparing to walk away when she says the one thing that would make him pause.

sometimes he really hates lune? what a pain. ]

What do you want.

[Slowly, she makes her way over to him, pulling something out of her pocket - it looks like a scroll. She holds it out to him, but she'll wait to see if he opens it before she says anything else.]

[ ...alright. he stares at it for a moment before reaching out to take it, sparing emma a quick, suspicious glance before opening it. what is lune up to this time. ]

[And then she clears her throat, waiting to see what he'll say.]

week six, saturday.

[It's a while after the trial concludes, and when she enters the kitchen and sees Ookurikara... She pauses for a moment, but she'd been intending to speak with him anyways.]

Hey. How are you feeling...?

[Given the whole hunked business.]

[ he's just finished cooking dinner, so when Emma arrives, he's starting to work on some mochi instead. he looks up in surprise when she speaks, pausing just a moment before going back to work. Milla should like this, right? she usually appreciates the snacks he brings her. ]

I'm fine. Why?

Just - you know. The power thing.

[But if he says he's fine, she'll get to her real point here.]

I wanted to thank you.

That's... [ hm. ] I'm handling it.

[ well he's really not, not at all, but emma is probably one of the last people he would admit that to. ]

...For what?

[Her look turns a little curious, because she isn't sure just how much she believes that, but... She doesn't follow up on it, at any rate.]

Just - you know. For not saying anything.

week 7, friday

[ he has. no idea where emma hangs out? but kara goes looking shortly after the death announcements, so wherever she is, if she's alone, he'll approach. ]

Can I talk to you?

[ he's clearly not happy about this but. okay. ]

[She looks a bit surprised after how their last talk went, but she nods all the same.]

Sure thing. What’s up?

I was given a task, so you just have to listen.

[ ugh he fuckin hates this. he's quiet for a moment as he tries to find the words. ]

I always thought you were... one of the more reliable ones here. I know Lili trusted you, too, and you've proven why she did a few times over. And you trusted me with your secret.

[ he crosses his arms. ]

And for some reason, you seemed to care about what happened to me at least you did last week, even if I don't particularly like after you cursed me. I... appreciate that, about you.

[ IS THAT GOOD ENOUGH god he hates emotions ]

[Oh.

She blinks and then nods. Having to complete the task she did with him a week ago was uncomfortable enough that she isn’t going to make a big deal out of this, even if it’s tempting.]

Um... Thank you, I think. What task are you trying to complete?

I... was advised not to say. By Lune.

[ he doesn't seem to like that much, either. ]

week 7, Saturday

[ after all of that, kara has eventually retreated to the armory. he's going through his usual practice drills, though a bit more aggressively than usual to work off the stress of Lune suddenly vanishing. he does pause when Emma shows up, but he doesn't sheath the sword just yet. ]

...Thank you, for not saying anything.

...Like I said, I owed you a favor.

[Not that she would have brought it up even if she didn’t. Regardless, she offers a small smile.]

Do you think you’re going to tell everyone now?

[unfriendliest]

...I don't know. Kaoru's plan was so that I wouldn't get caught and killed for it like Four, and it worked. Lune said he might need my help again, too. If that's the case, it might be better not to say anything yet.

[ kara doesn't like it, but there is a certain logic to it. ]

I think it was a little bit different for Four, since Miki wasn't corrupted... We didn't find out what happened until it was too late to change our vote.

[She frowns.]

It's up to you, but North and I are still fine, and - it might be nice if we all had more reason to trust each other going into the final stretch.

I know, but doing so does make me an automatic target at the next trial, and that would negate his whole plan. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't mind, but...

[ kara sighs. he's... pretty torn about this, tbh. ]

He put a lot of work into it. I was going to make it a lot simpler for him than it was, before he decided to do this.

week eight, tuesday.

[Wherever he is in the first gateway, Emma's looking for him; when she finds him, she raises a hand in greeting.]

[ kara's been exploring this citadel, noting the differences between it and his own with a frown. he's inspecting the device in the courtyard when emma arrives, a vaguely perturbed expression on his face, but he lets his hand drop back to his side and speaks without turning to face her. ]

What is it?

Other than... the obvious, did you hear from Lune about anyone else who’s going to be corrupted?

No. It looks like we're on our own for that, from now on.

Well... Maybe that means they'll be the only ones. Not that it really changes anything about what's going to happen to the rest of us, but...
