Not wholly unlike this one, I suppose. The sky is blue, and there's a variety of landscapes. The population is divided into major cities, with villages scattered in between, and magicians hold authority—if the gods are not present, at least.
The higher-ranking magicians are responsible for the cities' protection. I imagine they're appointed as leaders because any discussion will inevitably have to involve their input, either way.
Well, there's a child I've been looking after since her parents died. And we were staying with another family—originally, I was helping with a matter between the father and daughter that isn't mine to discuss, but since the father has gone off to protect another city, you could say I've been looking after her as well.
