The form it took was a bit of a surprise, but I'm getting more used to that... normally, the execution would happen without needing to come together and find who was responsible.
[So that's been weird, but the deaths? They happen.]
...as am I. I was also relieved to see that the corruption didn't seem to spread, when we missed him last week; I'd been worried that would be the case. That we'd end up in a cycle with multiple corrupted killers, and it would just continue to grow worse.
Yeah. Well... They keep giving us the thing about how getting to know each other will keep things at bay, and it seems like everyone's been talking a lot, so - maybe we've got a chance.
[She sounds less than certain, but that's probably just the cynicism talking.]
It hasn't worked very well, but I've at least been attempting to clean up the shrine this week... keeping an eye on my partner, speaking with a few others, and trying to find out a bit more about this place, for the most part.
[That last bit alone can be an Effort.]
You must have had poor luck with people, though, if so many of them were like that-- has it been better for you here?
It seems like it should be easier than it is, right?
[She shrugs, though.]
Well, I worked in food service, which is like an automatic entryway into dealing with horrible people all the time. But... Yeah. Basically everything here is easier than back home.
Well, Sol and Lune have said that if things go well here, there might be a way to make things better back home, too. So - let's call it a sidequest. A significantly less chaotic sidequest.
...Right. I have to wonder if their hints are going to run out sometime, though, you know? We definitely wouldn't have gotten it if they hadn't brought up the apples thing time and time again.

[no.]

[He sounds a little amused at the idea, but he hums thoughtfully.]
I think they're similar.
[Probably explains why he's seemed to be doing pretty okay.]
no subject
[It's sincere, even if she doesn't put more words to it than that.]
Well. At least you know what you're in for, right?
no subject
[So that's been weird, but the deaths? They happen.]

[...]
Although, I could probably find a better word than organized.
no subject
[They're doing their best...]
I think it could certainly be a lot simpler than it is.
no subject
[The sarcasm runs as deep as a trench.]
...I'm just glad we've managed to get it right so far. Glad, and more than a little surprised.

[She sounds less than certain, but that's probably just the cynicism talking.]

[That gets a faint smile from him, there.]
I suppose I should thank you for that, though-- you're one of the people I've spoken to most.
no subject
[She seems a little bit surprised by that, but then she nods.]
Well, you're welcome, then. I'm a little bit surprised, though, you seem pretty friendly. Or - like you don't mind people, at least.
no subject
[There's been plenty to do here, especially this week.]
Even so, your company has been nice to have when we've spoken.
no subject
[You know, that very small thing!! Either way, she tilts her head slightly, giving a small smile.]
Well, I'm glad. I'm not really used to many people who don't act like complete assholes, so - the feeling's mutual.

[That's a little concerning, Emma?]
-well. I'm glad that you at least get something of a break from it, then, though I am sorry it had to be this.
no subject
[Hm.]
Well, Sol and Lune have said that if things go well here, there might be a way to make things better back home, too. So - let's call it a sidequest. A significantly less chaotic sidequest.

[A brief nod, there.]
There are things I was unable to improve on my own, and-- things I hope might change, through this.
no subject
[It's true all the same, it sounds like.]
no subject
[Silver linings, and all that.]
no subject
Here's to hopefully not screwing it up.

...though I wouldn't count that out, honestly.

I’ve been told I should be more optimistic, though.
